Man-made fibres in the Federal Republic of Germany
Production
In 2009, man-made fibre production in Germany was 708,000 tons.
73% of these were synthetic man-made fibres. Among these synthetic man-made
fibres produced in the Federal Republic of Germany in the year 2009, polyester with its
share of 25% continues to be on first rank, followed by acrylic with 23% and polyamide with 16%.
The production of cellulosic man-made fibres was 189,000 tons, constituting 27% of
the total production of man-made fibres.
Exports
Compared to the previous year, the man-made fibre exports from the Federal Republic
of Germany decreased to 600,200 tons. Of these, 49% were exported to West Europe,
21% to East Europe, 20% to Asia, 7% to North America and 3% to the other regions.
Imports
Man-made fibre imports decreased to 461,400 tons in 2009. The largest share in man-
made fibre imports of 57% was synthetic staple, followed by synthetic filament yarn
with 28% and cellulosic man-made fibres with 15%.
Turnover and employees
In 2009, the turnover of the German man-made fibre-industry was 2,8 billion euros.
The number of employees decreased as compared to the previous year and was 9,400.
